Germiston soccer team needs help to join official league

Ngwavuma FC hopes to compete in the Germiston Local Football Association League, but a lack of funding for kit and boots is holding them back.

A local soccer club aims to advance to the bigger leagues by attracting sponsors.

The Ngwavuma Football Club in the Marathon informal settlement hopes to compete in official leagues one day; however, a lack of funding remains a significant obstacle.

According to player Jefett Gumbi, they need new kit, soccer boots and funds to join a league like the Germiston Local Football Association League.

“At the moment, the team trains during the week and plays local tournaments on weekends,” said Gumbi.

“Sport is a tool to help young people avoid drugs and social ills. As athletes, we understand the fitness in the sport, so we train in the morning and sometimes have an afternoon session.
