Spectacular powerboat event returns to East Rand waters
Benonian Keagan Keagan Frankiewicz is the defending champion after winning the championship at CR Swart Dam in May.
The quiet waters of the CR Swart Dam will erupt with speed and excitement on December 6 when the East Rand Speedboat Club (ERSC) hosts the second round of the South African Formula One (F1) Powerboat Championship.
The venue previously hosted the grand finale of the 2024/2025 season on May 31, where Benonian Keagan Frankiewicz claimed a third consecutive title, while local pilot Bruce Rhepsold secured third place overall.
The new season began on September 13 at Emerald Casino and Resort on the Vaal River, featuring races for junior and other classes alongside the main F1 event.

The main race consisted of three 15-lap heats, with last season’s runner-up Michael Wessels starting the season strongly after winning the opening race.
Chase Herholds, who finished ninth last season with 13 points, came second behind Wessels, while Morne Herholds (eighth last year) completed the top three.

Nico Wessels (seventh last season) was fourth, and John Ross Duncan and Dylan Moolman, who were involved in a crash during one of the heats, placed fifth and sixth respectively.
In addition to the thrilling action on the water, the event will support Paws for a Cause, an animal welfare organisation. Residents attending the championship are encouraged to bring a bag of dog food, which will be donated to the charity.
