Thunder Women tackle physical and mental test in Secunda challenge

Thunder Women took their strength and endurance to Secunda, where eight members participated in the Unshakeable HER – The Final Test after three months of training. With participants aged between 19 and 66, the event celebrated fitness, confidence and determination.

Eight members of Thunder Women demonstrated their strength, endurance and determination when they participated in the Unshakeable HER – The Final Test event in Secunda after more than three months of preparation.

The members of the club took part in the event, which challenged participants through a series of physical exercises designed to test their stamina, mental resilience and spiritual strength.

Coach Pietie Coxen accompanied the women and ran alongside them, offering encouragement and moral support from the sidelines as they tackled the challenges.

The participants ranged in age from 19 to 66, highlighting the programme’s inclusive approach to fitness and personal development.

The event marked the culmination of the three-month Unshakeable HER Challenge, which focused on celebrating women who committed themselves to improving their fitness, confidence and resilience.

For the Thunder Women participants, the experience was about more than competing. They wanted to prove to themselves that they could push beyond their limits and develop strength both physically and mentally.

The club’s involvement followed an invitation from the Secunda team, which encouraged the women to train for and participate in the challenge.

“Thunder has continued to grow its women’s programme, with 28 women now participating in activities that include self-defence, cardio conditioning and strength training,” said Coxen.

“The self-defence classes aim to equip women with practical skills to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations. The sessions also provide an outlet for participants to build confidence, improve their fitness and release stress through activities such as punching training bags,” said Coxen.

The programme promotes self-defence and personal safety as important skills for women and children, while encouraging participants to remain active and confident.

The Secunda event provided an opportunity for the women to measure their progress after months of preparation, with participants competing in their respective age categories.

Thunder’s participants secured first, second and third positions within the club’s results, while their reported overall placements included first, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth.

Their participation reflected the club’s focus on supporting women of different ages and fitness levels to challenge statewide goals and celebrate their achievements.

Through its ongoing training activities, Thunder aims to continue creating opportunities for women to develop physical strength, learn self-defence and support one another in pursuing their personal goals.
