Yesteryear’s music at its best

Fans of Ted Mills should not miss out on these shows.

Ted Wizard Mills is set to give local audiences a taste of yesteryear’s music when he takes to the stage for the first time in South Africa.

The shows take place at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City on February 19 and 20.

Mills was the lead vocalist for Blue Magic, an American R&B music group who rose to fame in the ’70s.

The group has since earned a sizeable profile among the greatest groups of their era and they were known not only for their exquisite vocal harmonies, but also for their masterful, storytelling choreography.

Blue Magic is best known for the dreamy soul ballads, Sideshow and Three Ring Circus.

As the lead singer of Blue Magic, Mills has performed with some of the biggest legends in the entertainment business, such as Jackie Wilson, Sammy Davis Jnr, Curtis Mayfield, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five, Lionel Richie and the Commodores, Gladys Knight and The Pips, The Temptations and many more.

The group also recorded the song If you really want to be my friend, with Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, which appears on their album “It’s only Rock and Roll”.

At the Lyric Theatre, in the month of love, Mills is set to take the audience down Memory Lane, performing the group’s number one hits.

Among the tracks music lovers can look forward to are the classics, Chasing Rainbows, Remember November, Just my Imagination, Teach me, and Spell.

Gold Reef City’s marketing manager, Gareth Kaschula, said: “We are delighted to host Ted Mills and to welcome him to our wonderful country.

“Soul music fans are in for a real treat and this international performance is certain to inspire all who attend.”

The shows start at 8pm.
