Today is drink wine day – as if we need an excuse!
On Throwback Thursday, here are a few throwback ways to spruce up your wine.
Kir and Kir Royal
Kir and Kir Royal are popular French cocktails made from crème de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur) topped up with white wine or champagne.
In France they are usually drunk as an aperitif before a meal or snack. Originally the wine used was Bourgogne Aligoté, a lesser white wine of Burgundy.
Recipe for Kir
In a wine glass or champagne flute, 9 parts wine, 1 part crème de cassis, add the cassis to the bottom of the glass, then top up with wine or champagne.
Spritzer
White wine and soda water to taste, diet or desired sobriety. Add berries or fresh mint if you like. Or how about a dash of angostura bitters for a pink spritzer.
