Vosloorus has been plagued by a string of robberies where people who withdraw money from ATMS at shopping centers are followed to their destination where they are then robbed.
According to Captain Piet Rossouw of the Vosloorus SAPS, the police station has observed a steady increase in the number of victims of such robberies who complain of having been followed and robbed after withdrawing money from an ATM.
And in a bid to nip the new crime trend in the bud, the police station’s head, Brigadier Themba Denge, urgently gathered heads of the local businesses, managers of the various banks, shopping centre complex heads and the local media to discuss ideas for tackling the problem head-on, together.
Flanked by the head of the local CPF, representatives from the banks, management of the Chris Hani Shopping Centre and members of the media Brig. Denge initiated the establishment of the first Crime Combating Forum. At the meeting all present resolved to work with the police in combating crime and creating awareness in Vosloorus.
The station’s media liaison officer, Capt. Piet Rossouw, hailed the initiative as a necessary forum to build a formidable defence to crush crime around Kathorus. “We thank all those who have resolved to give their support and commitment to the initiative,” said Rossouw.
