On July 5, the City of Ekurhuleni hosted an event at Germiston Civic Centre where students who have been awarded a scholarship to study logistics at the University Netherlandswere announced
Ekurhuleni executive mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele congratulated the top 20 students from different areas around Ekurhuleni after grueling evaluation tests before they were accepted and awarded the scholarship.
The mayor said he would like to see those selected 20 students making a difference, not only in Ekurhuleni, but in South Africa at large, and for them to demonstrate that Africans are equally human beings like people from other parts of the world.
Students who applied for the scholarship found out about it online and some through word of mouth.
Applicants had to undergo a three day assessment test.
On the first day they wrote two tests (mathematics and English), and on the second day they engaged in group activities on South Africa’s exports to the Netherlands.
Moloi Kgotso from Thokoza said this opportunity would open doors for him as it showed him that in life, the sky is always the limit and the rest is up to us, as individuals. No matter where you come from you cannot limit yourself but aim higher and work hard.
Cindy Dlamini, another of the 20 selected students, said, “Statistics tell us about how lazy the youth of South Africa is, it also tells us about the rising of pregnancy and crime rate, negative issues faced by South Africa but what it does not tell us about is hope that South Africa brings, that we are very hardworking and determined to change this country and make it a better one,” she said in her speech.
