The arrival of the mayoral candidate, City of Ekurhulni ward 51, Mzwandile Masina at the voting station (Mogobeng Primary School) brought joy to the hundreds of his supporters outside the voting station.
Hundreds of voters and ANC supporters waited patiently for their mayoral candidate to arrive to cast his vote. In the interview he had with the media after his arrival, the mayoral candidate displayed excitement even though he was not voting for the first time. “I am excited to represent the ANC and I am excited to be voting for the party. I am also excited about the job done by the ANC,” said Masina.
On his arrival he was welcomed by hundreds of his supporters.
He asked people not to throw away their votes and to vote for him and promised to work for them if they vote for him. “People must stick with the ANC. If people stick with the ANC we will create jobs for them. We will also increase the pace in which we are building houses for them,” said Masina.
Masina was very excited to see young people turning out in their numbers to vote and hoped they wouldn’t waste their votes.
He also asked young people to take responsibility and vote wisely.
Masina, who was accompanied by his wife, said he was so excited to be voting at this station as it reminded him of casting his vote for the first time. “This is where I voted for the ANC for the first time in 1994,” said Masina.
In support of the mayoral candidate were a number of prominent people, such as kwaito star Arthur Mafokate, hip-hop superstar Nhlanhla Nciza and well-known Pastor Mbhoro.
Arthur, who was dressed in the colours of the ruling party, had this to say to the youth: “Young people must understand the importance of voting. They must understand that voting is their right which they must exercise,” said Mafokate.
Nciza also had the same message for young people: “Young people must take voting very seriously.”
