The Vosloorus police have had a very busy month thus far, having made a number arrests since the beginning of the August.

Communications officer at Vosloorus Police Station, Capt Piet Rossouw said police were sending a clear message to criminals, as well as to those men who abuse women.

“There are so many cases of abuse against women reported during the month of August every year. This year we want women to feel safe. When men are drunk they sometimes take out their firearms and threaten women and sometimes kill them,” he said.

Rossouw said the operation to ensure women’s safety isn’t limited to Women’s Month but extends throughout the year.

Asked how harshly abusers of women are going be punished if they commit the crime this month, Rossouw said, “Real man don’t rape, don’t abuse, don’t assault and don’t kill women but treat their own women as queens.”

He continued to say that men should also know that women are precious assets of this country.

“We all belong to mothers as we were born of a woman. We regard all women as mothers and sisters. So men should stop abusing women and children because as soon as we hear a call reporting crime directed at women and children we will respond to it and all hell will break loose,” warned Rossouw.
