Mthembu, went on to tell the five new police sergeants, that police work is part of God’s work and that their role is to serve and protect.

It was a day of joy, jubilation and tears for detective head, Colonel Nomthandeki Magdeline Mthembu, of the Katlehong SAPS, as she celebrated the graduation ceremony of five of her top police detectives who have been promoted from constables to the rank of sergeants.
The celebrations which were held on Friday, October 7, at the Katlehong Police Precinct, were in honour of police constables; Sithembile Sithole, Sibongile Cynthia Sibuye, Pearl Nokwenza Sibanyoni, Xolani Fanozi Innocent Ntombela and Alec Bennett Maile – who have all been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
Addressing her newly promoted protégés, Col Mthembu, spoke emotionally to the officers about what their new promotion means to them and the communities they will be serving as high ranking law enforcement officers.
A highly religious and practising Christian, Col Mthembu, urged the jubilant officers to place their faith in their creator to lead them in their battle against crime.
“Do not for once be led to believe that you can achieve success on your own,” said Col Mthembu as she showered the newly promoted police officers with praise for their new achievements.
“You have to put your faith in a power that is greater than yourself in order for you to achieve your goals in life,” she added with tears streaming down her cheeks.
Mthembu, went on to tell the five new police sergeants, that police work is part of God’s work and that their role is to serve and protect.
“But for you to be able to do that, your have to serve the police force with dedication and commitment. I hope that will be your first step towards better and greater achievements as police officers,” said an emotional Mthembu to her joyful crew of young crime detectives.
