Residents demand speed hump

Moholi went on to talk about the drainage system on the street. He said it is useless because it is situated on the wrong side of the road.

Residents of Mofokeng Section in Katlehong are demanding that Lukhele Street be fixed as was promised to them by the municipality.

According to one of the residents from Lukhele Street, Thabo Moholi, they need a second speed hump and also a drainage system to be fixed as soon as possible.

“Our road is the busiest street because of the two schools on the street, Sonqoba Primary School and Iketsang High School. During the morning and afternoon when children are going to or from school, they are always in danger of being hit by speeding cars, especially the little ones in primary school.

“As residents we have complained about it and even petitioned the metro but nothing has been done about it,” said Moholi.

“We logged the complaint in March 2014 and it was promised that the second speed hump would be built in June 2014 but until now nothing has been done about it,” Moholi said.

According to Isaac Maja, who does road maintenance for Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality, the approval letter in his possession says that only one speed hump was needed in Lukhele Street and it was fixed a long time ago.

“Yes, we received an application letter from the residents about the speed hump, and it was erected on June 24.

“The approval letter that the community members of Mofokeng Section are now talking about was the approval of a second speed hump in SS Segwane Street,” said Maja.

Moholi went on to talk about the drainage system on the street. He said it is useless because it is situated on the wrong side of the road.

“The street is slanting to the left and the drainage system is on the right-hand side of the street. When it rains the water moves in the opposite direction from where the drain is.

“People who stay on the side where water moves experience flooding,” he said.
