Joburg Prawn festival to kick-start Highveld season
Prawn festival will take place on March 4.
The Highveld horseracing season will start in earnest when the Joburg Prawn Festival comes to Turffontein Racecourse.
The event will coincide the first race of the South African Triple Crown, which will take place on Saturday, March 4.
The SA Triple Crown is limited to three-year-olds. It is a series of three races of varying distances from 1 600m, with the SA Classic over 1 800m and the SA Derby over 2 450m.
There’s a R2-million bonus for any horse able to win the Triple Crown. Any horse managing to win the Triple Tiara, the fillies equivalent, will walk away with a R1-million bonus.
Last year, a Triple Crown hero emerged, with Abashiri claiming the laurels in all three events to join Horse Chestnut and Louis The King in the history books for this rarely achieved feat.
Over the coming months, Turffontein Racecourse will be gearing up for a number of key horse-racing and lifestyle events as the SA Triple Crown roars to life.
While the horseracing action provides a thrilling storyline on the track, there is enough happening off the turf to ensure that the whole family is kept entertained as the day progresses.
Food lovers will be taken care of with a delicious offer of R199 for 1kg of prawns with sauce, rice and chips. Tickets are available from Webtickets, their outlets at Pick n Pay stores or the Racing – It’s A Rush website.
General entrance tickets to the racecourse are R30 for adults and R10 for under-18s.
There will also be other food vendors on the day. Book your seat at the various venues at Turffontein Racecourse at prices which start from R295 per person, with an-inclusive package offered at R625 per person. Contact 011 681- 1508.
