Great music to start the year

The Lyric Theatre will host the first event of the Kaya FM and Bassline Live Present series.

This year gets off with a bang for Afro-soul fans as multi-award winning artist Zahara is booked as the first act to open up Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre’s monthly music event series Kaya FM and Bassline Live Present.

After a stellar line-up in 2017, the collaborative series has seen artists such as Thandiswa Mazwai, Simphiwe Dana, The Soil, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Oliver Mthukudzi and New York’s Tortured Soul and many others leave audiences hungry for more.

With the rich selection of artists being playlisted on Kaya FM, producers of the event are excited for the year ahead and gospel-influenced afro-soul sensation Zahara is officially the first artist in 2018’s line-up.

Zahara is no stranger to the airwaves.

With only six years behind her as an official recording artist, this hugely talented singer/songwriter has firmly placed her stamp on the hearts of music fans around the continent.

Fun and laughter to kick-start the year on a funny note

Growing up in a highly musical environment, she honed her skills from as young as six years old by singing at Sunday school and in various school drama productions, but it was only after her education that she took her love of music to the next level, by teaching herself the guitar and pouring her heart and soul into her self-penned, highly personal songs.

Her discovery and subsequent path to fame was fast and took her straight to the top, making her a multi-platinum selling artist almost overnight, yet not without relentless and continuous touring and self-dedication.

Her brand new album, Mgodi, sung in English and isiXhosa, was released in October 2017 and reached gold status within six hours of its release, making her one of the fastest selling Afro-soul artists in South Africa at the moment.

Catch Zahara while you can before she embarks on her nationwide and US tour planned for early 2018.

Once again, stylish urban outfitters Brentwood Clothing, new affiliates to the Kaya FM and Bassline Live series, will be on board, standing behind the rich arts and culture scene in SA through music.

The show takes place on February 3 at 8pm.
