AWIA call for incubation candidates for 2021
AWIA recruits young women in developing agricultural skills.
African Women in Agriculture (AWIA) is excited to announce that they have commenced their recruitment process for young women interested in developing agricultural skills.
Treasurer for the AWIA, Agnes Hove, said the incubation programme is for 12 months, and the first group will commence in January 2021.
“AWIA is a women’s organisation whose vision is to capacitate women’s access to the agricultural ecosystem, driving socio-economic impact through the initiation of disruptive virtual and physical communities. “In response to the low participation of African women in agriculture, AWIA was founded as a non-profit company in May 2018, to develop, promote and supporting women agri-preneurs,” said Hove.
She said women in South Africa and beyond have limited access to finance, agricultural inputs such as seeds, farming implements, and transport.
“They are impacted by a lack of agricultural skills and infrastructure, and the majority of them are involved in small-scale farming due to limited resources. AWIA intends to run several initiatives to raise awareness. “We are recruiting women agri-preneurs to learn about agriculture and the business of farming for a one-year incubation programme.
“We are seeking young women based around Eikenhof, Soweto, or Orange Farm who are interested in agriculture as a career and business opportunity,” she said.
The programme is in partnership with IDC SA (Industrial Development Corporation) and is a one year practical and theoretical programme.
Interested parties should email their CV, ID copy, and a motivation letter to info@awia.africa for consideration. The closing date for applications is on December 11.
