Saving and changing lives at the Door of Hope Children’s Mission
Changing lives for children at Door of Hope Children's Mission
Six-month-old Sipho was found in a veld, abandoned.
If he was able to speak for himself, this is how Sipho would tell his story:
“My name is Sipho, and I am six months old. When I was born, someone saved my life when they found me in a veld. They kept me warm and took me to the hospital.
“Then I came to the Door of Hope Children’s Mission. When I came here, people were happy to see me. There were other friends in the home, and there were aunties and uncles to care for me.
“I love being in my aunty’s arms and looking at her face when she feeds me. I don’t like being wet. When I am, my aunty changes me, and she always kisses me on my head before she puts me in my crib.
“My favourite time of the day is music time because uncle joins us, and he looks so funny when he does the action songs with us. I also love reading time. When our aunties read to us, I love listening to their voices. I don’t understand some of the words, but I love watching my auntie’s face.
“One day my forever mummy and daddy will come to get me, but until then I am loved. I am learning and growing every day with people who want to give me hope and a future.
“It is not easy for my aunties and uncles to care for so many of us, and that is why they have friends who help them. Their friends are called LifeChangers or LifeSavers.
“LifeChangers help us by donating any amount every month so that our aunties can buy food and nappies. This is a huge blessing because no matter the amount that LifeChangers donate monthly, they are helping to care for me and my friends.
“LifeSavers are donors who Adopt-A-Crib by donating R5 000 every month to care for one baby in a crib. That is how much it costs to care for me. I have a LifeSaver who adopted my crib.
“It is a big transport company, and they donate R5 000 every month to help my aunties and uncles to take care of all my needs.“
Anyone can become LifeChanger or a LifeSaver.
