Teamwork leads to car thieves being arrested

Six suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle on February 16.

Security companies were on high alert after receiving reports of a white Ford Ranger stolen at the Union Hospital.
The suspects involved were driving a white VW Polo and in their haste to get away from the crime scene drove this vehicle over security spikes.

This vehicle was abandoned by the suspects in Clinton Road.

The stolen Ranger was tracked to the Brackendowns area and was recovered in Van Bergen Street, where the suspects had abandoned it and fled on foot.

A manhunt started in the area. Two suspects were spotted by the Fox Security Tactical Team exiting a veld and jumping into a white VW Polo.

They requested back-up and both SAPS and security companies responded. With assistance from the CPS Security Tactical Team, the vehicle was stopped on Swartkoppies Road.

The six occupants of the vehicle were arrested and car break-in implements were found in the vehicle.

“SAPS members found several cellphones and a device that scrambles the electronic box of a vehicle, commonly used by suspects to disable the vehicle in order to steal it,” said WO Gerhard Cornelius, communications liaison for Brackendowns SAPS.

“Also found in the vehicle were Ford vehicle keys. The six suspects were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

“This is remarkable work from all the role players and shows the commitment from a great community in the fight against crime.”
