Joint venture leads to arrest of 119 suspects

The Ekurhuleni West District Police joined forces with other law enforcement agencies in embarking on several operations within the district, which resulted in the arrest of 119 suspects.

One hundred and nineteen suspects were arrested in the Ekurhuleni West SAPS precinct for various charges from May 7 to 9.

The several operations, which saw a major operation being held in Alberton, included roadblocks, searches, a vehicle control point (VCP) and crime prevention in hot spots.

Capt Manare Ramotshela of Alberton SAPS said the arrestees are expected to appear in various courts to face charges.

“Suspects arrested face charges from assault, some which includes domestic violence, intimidation, malicious damage to property, house break-in and theft. Charges also include fraud, general theft, possession of suspected stolen property or motor vehicle and shoplifting,” he said.

Ramotshela also said other charges include selling liquor without a liquor licence, dealing and possession of drugs and contravening the Disaster Management Act.

A few motorists were also nabbed for being under the influence of alcohol.
