Two fraudsters sentenced to four years’ imprisonment

The pair attempted to fraudulently withdraw R185 000 last year on November 19.

Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced Jeffery Zwelithini Mcikane (28) and Thabang Maseko (25) to four years’ imprisonment on April 19.

Mcikane and Maseko are both from Klerksdorp and were sentenced for fraud.

“Both were arrested at the FNB in Kempton Square on November 19, 2020,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“This comes after they tried to defraud the bank by requesting to withdraw about R185 000 from one of the company accounts, which is based in East London. An alert bank manager noticed that the documents produced by the accused were fraudulent and contacted their fraud unit.

“The unit that verified the documents established all documents were not valid and the Kempton Park SAPS members were summoned and both suspects were arrested.

“The matter was investigated by Det/Sgt Tumelo Phaka who ensured that the accused did not get bail and face the full might of the law.”
