Eskom implements load-shedding in Ekurhuleni directly
On request from the City of Ekurhuleni Eskom has agreed to continue implementing load-shedding in the City's service area due to the City failing to implement the required load-shedding in its area of supply.

Eskom has taken over the implementation of load-shedding within the City of Ekurhuleni.
In a statement released by Eskom, they indicate that they have on numerous occasions requested the City of Ekurhuleni in Gauteng to rectify the violation of its load-shedding requirements, per the parties’ electricity supply agreement.
These pleas have reportedly yielded very little success, with the municipality continuously failing to implement the required load-shedding in its areas of supply.
In compliance with NERSA requirements, since May 31 Eskom has reduced the required load from the City of Ekurhuleni’s respective points of supply. On June 2 the City acknowledged that they were unable to implement load-shedding as required.
Consequently, as an interim measure, the City of Ekurhuleni requested Eskom, which has agreed, to continue implementing load-shedding in the City’s licensed area of supply.
The City further agreed to communicate this arrangement with Eskom to the municipality’s customers and to publish the revised load-shedding schedules.
Customers from the City of Ekurhuleni are urged to contact the municipality directly regarding this matter.
