Vosloorus SAPS introduces Wellness Wednesdays
“It is important for the employee to be fit because a fit employee is a productive employee who can do their work effectively.”
Vosloroous SAPS continues with its health and wellness programme designed to support the men and women in blue with physical fitness and mental health.
It kickstarted the programme with a wellness walk from Vosloorus Police Station to Dawn Park led by Capt Kholeka Yawa, who is the principal social worker for employee health and wellness at Vosloorus SAPS.
Yawa said they usually have sports days on Wednesdays but this year, they decided to do Wellness Wednesdays.
“It means every Wednesday, there is a sports-related activity that we have to do that should help our employees in terms of physical and mental fitness.
“It is important for the employee to be fit because a fit employee is a productive employee who can do their work effectively.

“We cannot always depend on medicine that we are given by doctors. We also need to find other natural ways of maintaining our health.
“We have found, for example, people who have had insomnia, fatigue or stress improve their conditions by being physically active.”
Vosloorus SAPS media liaison officer Const Nompumelelo Nhlapo attests that the health and wellness programme is important for her and her colleagues.

She said the programme is also meant to encourage the community to lead healthy and fit lifestyles.
“I find this programme very useful. It’s refreshing to the mind and takes the stresses of daily challenges away. I advise my colleagues and the community to love themselves, accept their bodies, keep fit and stay away from crime,” Nhlapo concluded.
Yawa said she encourages everyone at the SAPS to join the programme.
