Frontline workers at the depot engaged directly with city manager Kagiso Lerutla as part of his flagship initiative aimed at investing in municipal depots and strengthening partnerships with employees.

The engagement was also attended by the head of department for service delivery coordination and caretaker of community services, Lesego Sentsho, and the head of department for roads and transport, Lehlohonolo Gomo.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, the programme is designed to support employees on the frontline by identifying challenges that affect day-to-day operations and addressing them through practical interventions.

During the engagement, staff raised concerns around the need for adequate tools of trade, including work uniforms, reliable transport and improved security at the depot.

Lerutla emphasised the importance of ensuring that employees are properly equipped to carry out their duties effectively and committed to reporting back within the next few weeks on issues raised.

The city manager and department heads inspected the depot to assess the condition of the facility, and determine how it could be improved to better support service delivery.

The city said the day concluded on a positive note, with frontline employees and management reaching a shared understanding focused on strengthening teamwork, improving working conditions and enhancing service delivery for communities across Ekurhuleni.
