Germiston rugby player helps Valkyries shine at Imbokodo 7s
Marks Park Rugby Club’s Valkyries showcased determination, teamwork and sisterhood at the Imbokodo 7s Rugby Tournament at UJ, with the U14 side claiming silver while the U16 and U18 teams secured fifth and fourth places respectively. Germiston’s Khezhia Loots also made her mark, representing both the U16 and U18 teams.
The future of girls’ rugby was on full display at the Imbokodo 7s Rugby Tournament at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) this past weekend.
Delivering impressive performances across the age groups were the Valkyries teams from Marks Park Rugby Club.
The Valkyries proudly fielded three girls’ teams: the U14, U16 and U18, with all three sides displaying determination, teamwork and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
The U14 Valkyries produced the standout performance, finishing second overall and taking home the silver medal.

Their achievement was a fantastic result for a young team that demonstrated confidence, teamwork and plenty of promise for the future.
The U16 Valkyries finished in an impressive fifth place, while the U18 side secured fourth place following a competitive weekend of rugby.
Adding to the excitement was Germiston’s Khezhia Loots, who represented the Valkyries in both the U16 and U18 teams.
Loots also took on a leadership role in the U16 side as vice-captain, working alongside captain Nicole.
However, the tournament was about much more than results. It provided an opportunity for the young players to build friendships, gain valuable match experience and strengthen the sisterhood among girls who share a passion for rugby.

For Marks Park Rugby Club, the weekend also highlighted its commitment to creating opportunities for girls at all levels of experience. Girls interested in rugby are encouraged to join the Marks Park Rugby Club Valkyries for training, development and opportunities to compete in tournaments and future competitions.

“Whether picking up a rugby ball for the first time or already having tournament experience, the club aims to provide a welcoming environment where young players can develop their skills and confidence,” said Loots.
“The Valkyries are building more than rugby players; they are building confidence, friendships, leadership and a sisterhood that extends beyond the field.
