SASSA beneficiaries urged to switch to Postbank black cards before deadline

Beneficiaries who have not yet migrated from SASSA gold cards to Postbank black cards face interrupted access to their grants during the September payment period if they miss the August 31 deadline.

Social grant beneficiaries who have not yet migrated from South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) gold cards to Postbank black cards have until the close of business on August 31 to complete the process and avoid an interruption to accessing their grant payments.

Postbank said beneficiaries who fail to migrate by the deadline will not be able to access their grants during the September 2 to 7 payment period.

However, their grant payments will continue to be deposited into their accounts. They will be able to access the funds once they complete the migration process.

Postbank COO Thami Cele urged beneficiaries who have not yet made the switch to act immediately.

“This is not the outcome we want for any of our social grant beneficiaries. Our ideal is for every social grant beneficiary to be successfully migrated before the commencement of the September grant payments cycle, so that they can continue accessing payments without interruption. We therefore make a special appeal to all beneficiaries who have not yet migrated to act immediately and complete the process,” said Cele.

Postbank expressed its appreciation to beneficiaries who have already completed the migration, saying they would continue to have uninterrupted access to their social grant payments.

Cele acknowledged that some beneficiaries may not be able to complete the migration by the deadline.

To assist them, Postbank card replacement sites will remain available after August 31. Beneficiaries who miss the deadline can visit their nearest site as soon as possible to complete the migration and restore access to their payments.

The card replacement service is available at participating retailers, including Shoprite, Usave, Checkers, SPAR and Pick n Pay.

Beneficiaries can dial 120355# from any mobile phone to find their nearest participating card replacement site.

The migration process is free, and beneficiaries need to present an identity document or temporary identity document.

Postbank said the new cards are activated immediately, and beneficiaries do not need to visit a SASSA office to complete the process.

For more information, beneficiaries can contact Postbank on 0800 535 455.
