Youth explore opportunities at ALMAC career expo
The event provided valuable guidance and skills development pathways for local youth.
The ALMAC Development Centre hosted a highly successful career expo on April 10.
It was attended by over 300 young people, mainly Grade Seven learners from Alrapark Secondary School, along with other youth from the Nigel community.
The centre’s manager, Sthembiso Dube, said the event’s purpose was to provide learners with valuable information on career opportunities, further education, and skills development pathways.
The expo included various exhibitors, including Sedibeng TVET College, University of Pretoria, Department of Labour, Oratilwe Community Centre, Alstom Group, SANCA Alra Park, Nigel CPF, Sakheni MaAfrica, Department of Correctional Services, Bambanani Drop-In Centre and Nigel ABSA.

Dube said that the stakeholders, together with the ALMAC Board, played a vital role in making the event impactful and successful. She said that the Automotive Electrical Circuit and Wiring training Programme (AIDC), implemented in partnership with the University of Pretoria, was the highlight of the day.
Ten students from ALMAC Development Centre successfully completed the training and received toolboxes to begin working while awaiting their accredited certificates, which will be issued within three months.

She explained that the learners had the opportunity to network, ask questions, and explore different career paths. The level of engagement and enthusiasm shown by the youth was truly inspiring.
“It was a positive and empowering day that clearly demonstrated the potential and determination of young people in our community. We are incredibly proud of what was achieved and look forward to hosting more impactful initiatives in the future. Thank you again to the ALMAC team for your amazing teamwork and dedication,” concluded Dube.
