Free photography & Art Lessons for budding creatives, says EMM
NIGEL - Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) is calling upon all camera enthusiasts hoping to enjoy a career in photography to enroll for a free nine-month-long digital photography course.

Classes commenced in September, but enrolments are still open to aspiring photographers between the ages of 18 and 30 years old and residing in the Tsakane, Duduza, Kwa-Thema, Nigel, Geluksdal, Brakpan or Springs area.
The purpose of the course is to up-skill amateur photographers with entrepreneurial and professional photography skills so as to eradicate the scourge of youth unemployment in Ekurhuleni.
“As the City of Ekurhuleni we believe that this opportunity will inspire young people to develop their own enterprises and be able to generate an income through their art so that they can contribute to the economy,” EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe said.
The photography course is set to equip students with camera techniques such as basic and theoretical camera functions, capturing and analyzing situations, interpreting themes such as night life around Ekurhuleni, outdoors, photo journalism, architecture, people and portraiture, city life and land-scape photography.
Photography classes will be presented every Wednesday at the Duduza Library’s Group Activity Room; admission is free and cameras will be provided for the duration of the course.
EMM is also offering budding fine artists the opportunity to fine tune their skills through the Ekurhuleni Art Development School. The classes will assist students whose schools do not offer art as a subject and out-of-school youth who are interested in forging a career in the visual arts.
Registration for the art classes is open until Friday October 9 and will take place until May next year.
Free art classes are available at the following venues:
*Springs Community Hall (Saturdays 09:00 – 11:30);
*Geluksdal Library (Wednesdays 14:00 – 16:30);
*Kwa-Thema Library Group Activity Room (Mondays and Tuesdays 14:00 – 16:30);
