Don’t forget the IEC Registration weekend this Saturday and Sunday (5 and 6 March 2016) from 08:00 to 17:00.This registration weekend is the first of two that the IEC will host. The next registration weekend will be in April, but the dates are not available as yet.
According to Gerry Holtzhausen (DA Councillor: Lesedi Local Municipality) the actual voting day is expected to be on Wednesday, August 3.
You can verify your current registration at check.da.org.za, or send an SMS to 32810 with your ID number. The answer normally comes back in seconds.
Holtzhausen warns that in a Municipal/Local election (like the one upcoming) it is imperative that the voter be registered IN, and votes IN the Ward where he/she stays, as earmarked by the IEC. In the recent Thlokwe-case, re. voting fraud, this point was highlighted specifically.
The Heidelberg Kloof residential area, and all the eligible voters who stay there, currently forms part of Lesedi Ward 9. (Made up of Kloof, Heidelberg central [CBD] and Jordaanpark.) The Demarcation Board has suggested however that the Kloof’s voters be moved to Ward 10, from 2016. (Made up, thén of Kloof, Overkruin, Bergsig, Jameson Park and the small holdings next to the R23 and surrounding areas.
The DA supported this decision for various reasons such as the amount of voters per ward (which the IEC is trying to keep below 4 000 per ward), distance from voting station, and various other reasons.
IMPLICATION FOR VOTERS THAT STAY IN THE KLOOF. NB
ALL the voters residing in Heidelberg Kloof will have to re-register in Lesedi Ward 10 if you wish to bring out a vote in August. Should you not comply, you will NOT be able to vote.
Should you not be able to re-register over any of the IEC’s two registration weekends, then you can also re-register at the IEC’s Office, housed in the Lesedi Municipal Offices, on the first floor. Their Office is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00. Please take your ID book/new card with you.
Thus, everything that the IEC does for voters over the registration weekends, they can do for you during office hours in Heidelberg. This would probably continue until middle April, where after the voters-roll will close, and you will not be able to re-register again.
Your closest point for re-registration over the IEC’s Registration weekends is the IEC Tent in Overkruin. Please follow the direction boards to your left, after entering Overkruin. 08:00 tot 17:00.
Please also forward your name, surname, ID Number, address in the Kloof, cell phone number and e-mail address to the DA’s Caucus Leader in Lesedi, at gcholtzhausen@gmail.com; or SMS same to him at 082 8578 277.
Thus, the DA can update their “VRM”-lists, and stay in touch with voters.
