In an interview with HERAUT on July 7, the 41 year old Springs resident described himself as driven and committed to serve the local community. Addressing the question on how a family member of ward councillor Wally Labuschagne could be elected as candidate for the same position, Wollaston explained that the party’s selection panel had made the decision in January 2016, after his successful completion of the potential candidate programme in 2014.

Wollaston had been actively involved in the Springs community for the past three years, serving as secretary of Springs AfriForum, board member of the Clydesdale CPF and Selpark Dam committee member and said Ward 88 would be no different, as he is passionate about getting involved in community safety.

“One of my first and most important duties is to build a lasting relationship with the municipal manager and heads of departments at Nigel Town Council. That will result in good communication between residents and the municipality,” he said.

Another one of his goals is to establish a united service delivery forum that will consist of various community organisations such as the CPF and any other interested community institutions or associations.

“I have large shoes to fill, but am fully prepared for the next chapter in my life. I look forward to meeting and working with the residents of Ward 88,” Wollaston concluded.

Wollaston Labuschagne will be taking over the reins as DA ward councillor from Wally Labuschagne, after the 2016 municipal elections on August 3.
