Truck’s failed brakes cause pile-up

No on seriously injured, but driver ran away.

A heavy loaded truck (filled with building sand) caused a pile-up in Shalimar Ridge this morning around 08:00 when its brakes failed and it rolled downhill crashing into three other vehicles.

The accident happened in Kismet Street just past the low water bridge. An Opel Kadett’s front was crushed beneath the truck when it rolled backwards towards the Blesbokspruit. A bakkie (with a mother and small child) and a minibus transporting passengers were also caught up in the accident.

No one was seriously injured. However, the driver of the truck ran away and police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. Heidelberg Police Station’s number is 016 341 2570.
