Armed robbery at Caltex

HEIDELBERG – Three armed men demanded the code to the safe when they robbed the Caltex garage on the R23 just outside Heidelberg on the evening of November 4. This Caltex garage was the victim of an armed robbery when two suspects entered the garage posing as customers.

While the shop attendant was busy assisting another client, opportunity presented itself to the robbers. One of the suspects pulled a firearm on the shop attendant, forcing him to the floor. The other suspect then cleared out the safe and the money in the till.

According to captain Thivhulawi Tshilate (spokesperson) of Heidelberg SAPS, a third suspect then entered the shop, pulled a firearm and demanded one of the customers in-store to hand over his cellphone and cash that he had on him.

The suspects managed to escape on foot and no arrests have been made. The one man was tall, wearing a light blue sweater and grey tracksuit pants. The other suspect was short and skinny, wearing a light- and dark blue striped golf shirt, black jacket, light trousers and white tekkies. The third suspect was wearing a blue sweater, blue denim and khaki hat. The robbery was caught on camera and police are investigating the matter.
