34-year-old man arrested after 4 cattle slaughtered in Nigel
A 34-year-old man was arrested in Nigel after EMPD Equestrian Unit officers allegedly found four slaughtered cattle and recovered two blood-stained knives from a vehicle linked to the incident.
Police arrested a 34-year-old man for alleged stock theft in Nigel in the early hours of September 25.
Officers from the EMPD Equestrian Unit arrested him while patrolling the area.
According to the EMPD, officers received information about a silver Renault Kwid allegedly linked to a stock theft incident and believed to be travelling in the Nigel area.
Officers responded to the information and proceeded to Devon Road, where they reportedly found four slaughtered cattle.
Shortly afterwards, they spotted a vehicle matching the description provided and pursued it.
Officers eventually stopped the vehicle on Nigel Road and apprehended the 34-year-old male driver.
A search of the vehicle allegedly resulted in the recovery of two knives.
The EMPD said the knives had blood on them and were allegedly used in the slaughtering of the cattle.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly admitted to using the knives during the incident.
The suspect was taken into custody at the Nigel Police Station and is expected to appear before a Magistrate’s Court. The circumstances surrounding the alleged stock theft remain under investigation.
