Hawks need assistance in locating suspect fraudster

They believe that Gerhard Nieuwoudt Olivier is somewhere in Johannesburg.

The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the Hawks is searching for Gerhard Nieuwoudt Olivier (34) for alleged fraud.

Olivier is alleged to have siphoned almost R18.4 million from unsuspecting victims in a farm investment scheme as far back as 2010. He allegedly swindled various potential investors to purchase farm equipment and feed in return for a fee.

Instead of utilising the money properly towards the intended purchase, he allegedly disappeared with the money. Investigations revealed that approximately R600 000 was allegedly deposited into his personal account and this amount was withdrawn from his account on the 1st of April 2010.

He is also accused of deceiving members of a farming co-operation by falsely representing himself as a wealthy farm owner and promising to provide them with farming resources. His so-called farms were valuated and he was granted a loan, but he never delivered on his promises.

The Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Olivier on 6 June 2019 after he failed to appear in court.  It is believed that he currently finds himself in Johannesburg.

Any person with information which may lead to his arrest is urged to contact the investigating officers, Colonel Schiltz on 082 471 6756 or Warrant Officer Wynand Olivier on 071 481 3326.
