According to Sgt Harry Manaka (SAPS spokesperson) the arrest was a result of a crime intelligence-driven operation, conducted by the SAPS crime prevention unit over the weekend.
“The woman was arrested in her home in Nala Street, where she reportedly concealed the drugs,” Sgt Manaka said.
He added that there had been reports of drug activities at the suspect’s house for some time and that the police on several occasions, raided the house to no avail.
“However, police finally had a breakthrough and managed to arrest the female in possession of drugs,” Sgt Manaka said.
SAPS Duduza station commander Lt Col Bheki Mhlungu commended his members for their persistence and commitment in the fight against drugs.
“It was no easy task, but the police members involved had used all the lawful channels in gathering intelligence and executing the search, which finally resulted in a successful arrest,” Lt Col Mhlungu said.
He also expressed relief that at least one drug dealer has been taken out of circulation, which is a positive sign in ensuring community safety.
The suspect was expected to appear at the Nigel Magistrate’s Court on March 10.
