Cambridge FC wins the MAFA league

The team will play in the upcoming playoffs.

Cambridge Football Club came out victorious in the Mackenzieville Alrapark Football Association (MAFA) league on August 29.

The team faced Dream Team FC while the rivals for the title, Umnyovu FC and Playaz FC, faced off on the next field.

The final matches of the league were held at the Jim Fouché Stadium with only 100 spectators allowed due to Covid-19 regulations.

Cambridge FC started the game on the back foot, with Dream Team FC managing an early goal from a free kick.
Cambridge managed to get on the board late into the first half, entering half-time with a tie of 1-1.

“The atmosphere of both games was very tense,” explained Cambridge coach Ignatius Maphike.

“If we only had one point at the end of the match, we would have been second and the Umnyovu team would have been top of the log.”

The second half of the match saw the Cambridge team picking up the pace with neat passes and interchanging its transitions.

With three substitutes made for Cambridge in the 70th minute of the game, the team turned the tables by scoring four more goals, winning the match with a final score of 5-1.

Cambridge won the league title with only one point and will now face league play-offs.

Coach Dennis Mestana expressed his happiness in winning both the match and the league, especially in the presence of the club president.

“We dedicated this match to our late club manager, Fazel Mangera,” said Maphike.

“He was always fully committed to the club. May his soul rest in peace.

“Thank you to the community who always rally behind the team.”
