Water supply under severe strain

Parts of Heidelberg are still experiencing water supply issues.

HEIDELBERG – The Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) confirmed today (February 14) that the water supply for Heidelberg and the surrounding areas is currently under severe strain.

The municipality noted that the technical teams of both Rand Water and the LLM are jointly working to normalise the supply.
The following high-pressure areas have been successfully restored:

• Bergendal
• Overkruin
• Parts of Heidelberg Kloof
• Jordaan Park
• Rensburg
• Bergsig
• Heidelberg Mall

The LLM further explained that the Heidelberg Command Reservoirs are currently at 70% and the operating pressure from the Rand Water bulk supply has reached the 5.5 bar mark.

The only areas still affected are Ratanda, Obed Nkosi, Luckhoff, Heidelberg Extensions 23 and 26.
These areas were affected by the main water supply pipe burst, which supplies the supply from Heidelberg Command Reservoirs to the Ratanda/Emmasdal Reservoirs.

“Our technical teams are on the ground to fast-track repair work on the affected bulk supply line,” the LLM said.
“Water tankers will be stationed in the affected areas as a temporary measure, whilst maintenance work is unfolding.”

The municipality recognises the inconvenience caused and urges residents to not fill swimming pools and water gardens, and to use water sparingly.
