Gender-based violence concerns raised

Sedibeng College visited by SAPS.

Heidelberg SAPS visited Sedibeng College to address the students on the issue of gender-based violence.

Lieutenant Colonel Mpumi Dlamini from the SAPS support department, Captain Carol Samgweni, Constable Nosiphwe Makinana and Sergeant Makgabo Moila were part of the contingent that visited the college.

A few weeks before the visit the students handed over grievances to Colonel Phiwe Ndwandwe station commander of Heidelberg SAPS.

Dlamini encouraged the students to speak out on issues where they feel they are a victim. She encouraged the students to become leaders in their immediate community and break the silence.

Dlamini reassured the students about measures that are in place to guard them against crime.

There will be police visibility around the campus area and school with random searches also being conducted.
The students were advised on what and how to report when they feel unsafe.

Heidelberg SAPS will be visiting more schools in the area and engaging with the communities.
