Sports Against Crime gets youth off the streets
The Sports Against Crime initiative is rapidly growing.
A Sports Against Crime event was held on June 21 at the Khanya Lesedi School Of Specialisation in Ratanda.
It was the event’s second year and aimed to unite the community through sports and steer them away from criminal activities.
The initiative was a combined effort between the Heidelberg SAPS, Gauteng Sport and Culture, the Lesedi Local Municipality and schools in the area.

The speakers each had a specific message.
“We must stamp out crime and safeguard the children of the community against crime and criminal activities,” Clr Bheki Mkhize said.

“We need to promote social cohesion and prevent crime by playing sports and keeping our minds active,” said the Crime Prevention and event spokesperson, Captain Mwandile Blose.
“Preventing crime is of utmost importance.

“We need to respect each other and be pillars of strength in your community and family.”
TikTok influencer BraJobe (Johann Mogajane) inspired the children to reach for their dreams and never stop learning.

“To make a difference in the community, you need to stand up for what you believe in and work toward your dreams,” said BraJobe.
“This initiative is gaining momentum,” concluded Emmanuel Nkabinde from the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation.

“When we stand together, we can achieve more.
“This is the second year for the event, and it has gained more interest and participation than last year.”
Some learners played netball and soccer matches during the event, while others participated in other sports.
