Cambridge FC ready for league resumption

Cambridge FC is working towards promotion to a higher league.

NIGEL – The Cambridge Football Club, training out of Alra Park in Nigel, is gearing up to resume its Hollywood Bets Regional Football League programme on January 11.

Cambridge FC ended 2024 on a high note when it had a walkover against the Daimbers Academy. The match was supposed to be on December 14, but the Diambers FC failed to meet the quota of players needed to be present on match day. Therefore,

Cambridge got all the league points on offer on the day. In the last five matches, Cambridge secured four wins and one draw.
Cambridge FC chairman Ignatius Maphike is optimistic for the rest of the season.

“The boys are all back in training. Most players participated in tournaments over the festive season to stay sharp. We hope there are not a lot of injuries or fatigue setting in on the players.

“We want to build a strong team for the second round of the league and plan to make a few new additions to the squad during the January transfer window,” said Maphike.

Cambridge FC’s new sponsor, VPS Haulers, has sponsored a new kit for the team. It appeals to local businesses to invest in the community-based project, part of a programme to help young players play sports rather than fall into crime and drugs.

“Cambridge FC wants to gain promotion and compete in the higher ABC Motsepe League when the new season starts later in the year. For that, we need more sponsors and support from businesses,” concluded Maphike.

Cambridge’s next match is on January 11 against Juventus at the WJ Clement Stadium in Reiger Park.
