Cambridge FC starts year with loss
It’s back to the drawing board for Cambridge FC.

NIGEL – Cambridge Football Club in Alra Park started the year with a 3-2 defeat. The Hollywood Bets League started on January 18 for Cambridge FC, with them travelling to Vosloorus for their match against Vosloorus Arsenal.
From the onset, Cambridge was on the back foot and struggled to get into a rhythm. At times, it looked like Cambridge’s players were not ready for action or still recuperating from the December break.
Vosloorus Arsenal scored their first goal within the first 10 minutes. Cambridge scored the equaliser five minutes later through a free kick by striker Ignatius Makgopa.
Vosloorus dominated the play thereafter to put themselves ahead 2-1. Through poor concentration, Cambridge allowed a third goal against them.
In the second half, Cambridge struggled and forced head coach John Mourinho Mosia to make substitutions by introducing new players and fresh legs. It helped because Cambridge scored through winger Mthusi Moto Mqele.

From that point, both teams tried to attack as much as they could and created chances, but that did not change the scoreline.
Cambridge goalkeeper Thapelo Khuzwayo Nkwanyana ensured no other balls found the back of his net with exceptional saves.
“We were beaten by the better team. Vosloorus successfully stopped us from playing our normal game and starved us of the ball. Poor concentration is a problem we must work on and learn from. It is back to the drawing board for us,” said Mosia.
“The result is not what we hoped for. But it is the first match after the Christmas break. The boys will come back stronger and correct the mistakes they made today,” said Cambridge FC chairperson Ignatius Maphike.
“We call on local companies to plough back into the community of Nigel to support this initiative of helping young boys stay away from drugs and crime.”
