Man shot and killed in Ratanda

The victim was declared dead on the scene.

Ratanda SAPS is investigating a case of murder after a man was shot and killed in his home on February 23.

According to Ratanda SAPS corporate communications spokesperson Sergeant Moss Maluleke, Ratanda police received a report at about 02:50 regarding a shooting in Ratanda Ext 1.

Upon arrival, a 54-year-old man was found lying motionless and covered in blood.

It is alleged four armed males gained access to the victim’s home and held the family hostage.

The intruders asked the children where the father was and they pointed to a back room.

Several shots were fired at the victim.

SAPS members found 13 cartridges on the scene and one unused live round of ammunition in the yard.

The man was declared dead on the scene. The motive for the murder is not known and investigations are ongoing.
