Newborn reported missing in Ratanda, mother arrested for attempted murder
Police officers found the baby wrapped in plastic.
A young mother has been arrested for attempted murder following the alleged disappearance of her four-day-old baby in Ratanda.
According to Sergeant Moss Maluleke of Ratanda SAPS, the corporate communications officer, police received the report of the missing infant on April 7.
The father notified the police that the child’s mother told him that two men entered the premises in Obed Nkosi and abducted the infant.
The SAPS members visited the mother at the premises where she provided the same statement.
Police officers noticed the smell of smoke in the house and investigated.
The members went into a closed spare room and heard a baby crying from the wardrobe.
They discovered the baby wrapped in black plastic, together with burning nappies.
The baby was rushed to the local hospital and later transferred to the Telle Mogoerane Hospital for further medical care.
No further information is currently available regarding the child’s condition.
The mother was arrested on a charge of attempted murder and will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court.
