Weekly Heidelberg crime stats released by SAPS

Crime fighting remains an ongoing operation.

The local SAPS released these statistics on crimes reported in Heidelberg between May 12 and 18.

The stats are shared to create community awareness about crime trends in the area.

Sector 1 (Bergsig, Blinkpoort, Eendracht, Groenfontein, Heidelberg Army Gymnasium, Heidelberg Kloof, Klippoortjie, Koppieskraal, Overkruin, Poortjie, Rooikraal, and rural areas – Spaarwater and Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve)

• Rietvalei: General theft of and damage to essential infrastructure in Glenroy. May 15 at 18:17.

• Rietvalei: General theft of and damage to essential infrastructure in Glenroy. May 16 at 01:00.

• National road: Truck hijacking and kidnapping on R550 Road. May 14 at 08:00.

• Rietvalei: General theft of and damage to essential infrastructure in Glenroy. May 13 at 18:00.

• Blinkpoort: Stock theft in Blinkpoort. May 16 at 20:00.

Property involved: Cable, Nissan UD truck, cows.

Sector 2 (Boschfontein, Heidelberg CBD, Heidelberg Central, Jordaan Park, Klipstapel, Mount Arabel, Shalimar Ridge and Schickfontein)

• Heidelberg Ext 5: Robbery with a firearm on Smith Street. May 16 at 14:15.

• Heidelberg central: Attempted murder on Van Der Westhuizen Street. May 10 at 21:00.

Property involved: Cellphone, money.

Sector 3 (Bothaskraal, De Hoek, Houtpoort, Rensburg, Lasgerspoort, Modderfontein and Steynskraal)

• Rensburg: Stock theft on Zuid Street. May 14 at 18:00.

• National road 3: Truck hijacking and kidnapping on N3 South. May 12 at 20:20.

• National road 3: Carjacking and kidnapping on N3 South. May 16 at 18:30.

• National road 3: Carjacking and kidnapping on N3 South. May 18 at 18:00.

• Rensburg: Business robbery on Zuid Street. May 16 at 02:30.

• Rensburg: General theft on Vos Street. May 15 at 23:00.

Property involved: Sheep, goats, Volvo truck, truck trailers, oil, VW Transporter, Toyota Urban Cruiser, laptop, cellphones, clothing, gate motor, solar panel.

The Heidelberg SAPS urges community members to report all crimes in their areas because they can only respond to criminal activities if they are reported.

This will also allow police to focus on hotspots.
