Upon investigating, the officers found a man stripping components from the box. He attempted to run away, so the officer pursued him and called for backup.

Co-ordination between three units ended in the arrest on the corner of Hospital and Pretorius streets. The man was returned to the crime scene, where the Heidelberg SAPS arrested him.

Community members should always report any suspicious activity to ensure public infrastructure remains protected.

As reported in last week’s HERAUT, vandalism and electrical boxes being stripped have become a serious issue in town, causing power outages and a significant financial impact.
