Heidelberg safety teams respond within minutes to knife incident

A rapid response from local safety organizations and police resulted in the arrest of a suspect after an alleged confrontation at a Heidelberg property on June 20.

A swift response by community safety organisations and local police led to the arrest of a man allegedly armed with a knife following a disturbance at a property in Heidelberg on June 20.

Members of AfriForum Heidelberg and the Ratanda Anti-Crime Unit were conducting routine patrols when they received an urgent request for assistance through a community WhatsApp group.

The patrol teams responded immediately and arrived at the scene within minutes.

Upon arrival, they encountered a man who was reportedly armed with a knife. He was successfully disarmed, and the situation was brought under control without any injuries.

Heidelberg SAPS was notified and officers subsequently arrived at the scene, taking both the man and a woman who was present during the incident into custody for further investigation.

According to information provided by the property owner, an altercation had allegedly taken place between the man and the woman on the premises.

The property owner reportedly approached the pair and asked them to leave after they were allegedly found trespassing.

It is further alleged that the man became aggressive when confronted.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
