Calm during the national shutdown
The Heidelberg and Nigel areas were calm during the national shutdown on Monday.
The planned countrywide shutdown of March 20 saw a peaceful protest in Heidelberg and relative calm in the Nigel area.
The reports from Sergeant Moss Maluleke from Ratanda SAPS indicated that there was a gathering, but no incidents were reported.
A peaceful march took place, but shops and taxis still operated without any problems.
Heidelberg SAPS spokesperson Constable Doris Nkosi said there were no incidents and everything was peaceful.
There were requests made to the SAPS for a march to Obed Nkosi township and Ratanda Ext 23.
No incidents or violence were reported.
SAPS members, AfriForum and CPF members monitored Heidelberg throughout the day.
In Nigel, no protests were reported.
“It was a quiet day in and around Nigel with no incidents or protests reported throughout the day,” said Rudi Rudolph of the Nigel CPF.
