EMPD searches local schools

EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit conducted school searches and safety campaigns in the area.

The EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit members searched Hoërskool John Voster in Nigel on April 14, starting at 09:00.

They uncovered nothing sinister.

With the reopening of schools for the second term, the unit picked up where it left off last term with its ongoing school searches across the City of Ekurhuleni.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the spokesperson for the EMPD, these interventions aim to create safer school environments for teaching and learning to take place peacefully.

The search was part of the ongoing rollout of school searches across the CoE.

“This also looks into educating learners on the dangers of substance abuse and bullying,” Thepa said.

The EMPD applauds the partnership with other stakeholders to prevent and curb pedestrian and motor vehicle accidents and teach children how to cross the roads safely.
