Cambridge Football Club honours its football stars
Hard work recognised by Cambridge FC.
The Cambridge Football Club recently held their annual awards ceremony for the 2023/24 season in Nigel.
Cambridge’s home ground is MacKenzieville Stadium in Alra Park, and the local community supported every match Cambridge contested in numbers.
The club finished their fixtures as part of the Hollywood Bets, Ekurhuleni League, in third place and narrowly missed out in the playoffs.
It came down to the last match of the league to determine the playoffs.
The club honoured the players for their dedication and hard work during the season.
“With many financial challenges and lack of sponsorship the club found it difficult to operate, but completed the season and gave a good account of themselves,” said Cambridge club chairperson Ignatius Maphike.
The following players won awards:
Most improved player: Lindelani Zulu.
Young player of the season: Nkosinathi Ndati.
The most committed player award: Banele Mthambana.
Players player of the season: Banele Mthambama.
Goalkeeper award: Banele Mthambama
Banele Mthambama is a novice at the higher league level of play. His previous club was in a lower league, Como City FC.
“I want to congratulate the players for a job well done. The respect shown to the coaches and management, together with a hunger to excel, is a good sign of the club’s future success.
“I also want to thank Ignatius Maphike for the opportunity to have faith in me to be in charge of the football team,” said Cambridge FC head coach Minihle Cooper Dineka Mthimkhulu.
“I thank everyone who contributed financially and assisted the club to complete the league campaign. I wish to encourage local businesses to step on board and assist the community-driven campaign to help the youth stay away from crime and drug and alcohol usage. We will see you in the new season,” said an emotional Maphike.
The sponsors that assisted their campaign were Craig Cornish, Dr Ngema, Thembridge, Café 69, Peruman Family, Lephuting Transport, previous Cambridge players and friends of the club.
