Heidelberg Hospital staff promote healthy eating and active living during Nutrition Week
Heidelberg Hospital staff marked National Nutrition Week with a 3.5km fun walk and activities highlighting the importance of balanced diets and regular exercise.
Heidelberg Hospital management and staff members promoted healthy living through a 3.5km fun walk on October 11 as part of National Nutrition Week.
The activity, led by the hospital’s Dietetics Unit, highlighted the importance of combining a balanced diet with regular physical activity to maintain good health and prevent nutrition-related diseases.
Mapula Makgoba from the Dietetics Unit said National Nutrition Week is observed annually from October 9 to 15 to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.

“National Nutrition Week reminds us of the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, including healthy eating, in promoting good health and preventing nutrition-related diseases,” she said.
Makgoba emphasised that a balanced diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and lean proteins provides essential nutrients for growth, energy and overall well-being.

She encouraged people to choose healthier foods, drink enough water, practice good food hygiene and limit foods high in sugar, salt and unhealthy fats.
According to Makgoba, these habits, combined with regular physical activity, can help reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes, hypertension and other non-communicable diseases.

The programme concluded with fun games, during which participants were divided into colour-coded teams and competed for prizes.
