Heidelberg Bowls Club entered a few members into the Perfect Delivery Gauteng Open Bowls Tournament.
The players were Gert Briel, Jaco van Niekerk, Herman van der Merwe, Karl Strauss, Werner Schipper, Johan Eygelaar, John Drysdale, Mike van Nierop, Joanette van der Merwe, Margaret Strauss and Johann Strauss.
Some members did not qualify after the sectional play, while others stumbled during the playoffs.
Van Niekerk and Briel are through to the men’s pair playoffs, while Van der Merwe came through the day with flying colours.
Van der Merwe will contest the singles final 16 round on July 25 at Morningside Country Club against Jason Evans.
In a separate tournament during the Handicap Singles Bowls Tournament at Heidelberg Bowling Club recently, two local bowlers, Joanette van der Merwe and Margaret Strauss, played each other in the final round.
Joanette was victorious. Both players are new to the sport and have only been playing for the last two years.
