Cambridge comes away with a draw

It’s back to the drawing board for CFC.

Cambridge Football Club had to settle for a 1-1 draw in their Hollywood Bets League match against the Samba Boys from Reiger Park, Boksburg, on November 25.

Samba Boys started stronger and created two early goal-scoring opportunities.

Initially Cambridge struggled to gain momentum and were defending for a lot of the early stages in the match. Samba Boys scored the first goal from a cross kick that Cambridge could not keep in control.

Cambridge started to play more as a unit and kept possession of the ball. They, however, failed to convert goal scoring chances.

The first half ended with Samba Boys leading 1-0.

In the second half, Samba Boys created various goal scoring opportunities but could not find the back of Cambridge’s net.

Cambridge coach rang the changes and substituted a few players.

The changes brought a renewed energy to Cambridge as Katleho Dumbele Molobela scored with 15 minutes left on the clock. Cambridge started to put pressure on Samba Boys.

As the final minutes ticked by, Cambridge was awarded a penalty for a foul.

The penalty kick was wasted by captain Banele Mkhwanzi.

“The game was too tactical for us ,we did not expect our opponents to play the direct approach. We needed to come up with plan B by rotating the ball from right to left until we could find those spaces. It was difficult for us to play our own game on a very difficult pitch.

“By introducing fresh players in the second half we managed to control the game until we equalised. We managed to create a penalty but could not convert the penalty into a goal. For me and boys it is back to drawing board” said head coach Fairhans John Mourinho Mosia.

Chairperson Ignatius Maphike said “It’s a disappointing result as we could’ve walked away victorious with three log points. We will take the one log point and learn a valuable lesson”.

Cambridge FC’s next match will be against Benoni Northerns.
