Community enjoys night market
“In Nigel, there is always a spirit of support among the community, and festivals like this are always attended by many.”
The John Vorster school grounds buzzed with excitement on November 29.
The Nigel Community Church transformed the grounds into a night market with stalls, food and entertainment, with the highlight being the colour run.
The good food, entertaining stalls, live music and the colour run ensured something for everyone.
The fun-filled family evening saw the children entertained, and interesting vendors displayed their goods, even a mocktail stall.
The cakes and biscuits stalls had mouthwatering eats for the sweet tooth. There was food galore – tasty chicken and beef curry, flame-grilled chicken, vetkoek and mince, jaffles, pancakes, boerie and cheese griller rolls, popcorn, ice cream, cold drinks, coffee and tea.
Even a radio station from Heidelberg was active at the venue.
The highlight was the much-anticipated colour run. Participants gathered at the starting line, dressed in neon and rainbow colours. At the signal, the 200 participants of all ages took off for the 3.3km run/walk.
The serious runners were back at the grounds within 15 minutes. Jason Erasmus was first over the line, with Awie Koekemoer second and Wian Pretorius third. Zante Pretorius was the first female back.
The prizes for the best-dressed male went to Frans Niebuhr and the best-dressed female to Mia Frazer. The first golden oldie male and female – Nick Lubbe and Sue Snyman – were honoured when they stepped over the start line.
“A huge thank you to the Nigel CPF and patrollers who ensured the participants were safe and en route. We can not thank the Nigel community enough for making our event a huge success. But we could not do it without our sponsors, who wanted to give back to the community that supports them,” said Naomi Moss, Nigel Community Church spokesperson.
The sponsors were Africoat, the Angelo Super SPAR, Dr JG du Preez, Earth Owl, the Flight Centre Independent, Hilde and Priscilla Schoeman-Smit, Johmelia Security Services, Mammas Bakery, the MCG Hair Studio, the Nigel Meat Market and the Picanha Grill, Guest House & Events Venue.
“Lastly, but most importantly, a thank you must go to our Heavenly Father, who gave us the strength and vision to host such a big event. Our Father also gave us a clear sky without any major hiccups. Thank you, Father,” Moss added.
The Nigel Community Church aims to bring together the community and be a worship sanctuary in Nigel.
